Eau Duelle is a woody oriental fragrance
Eau Duelle opens with a complex balance of spices, woods, and balsamic accord, mainly vanilla. The spicy and aromatic character of both elemi and cardamom offers a delicate welcome at the opening. Elemi’s green and lemony facet blend perfectly with the spicy cardamom, and cardamom’s aromatic aspect provides freshness to the whole composition. A little touch of pink pepper gives a push to the top notes, giving the spicy-aromatic accords a better projection.
Although very subtle, the fresh-terpenic notes of bergamot are present at the top notes. A flash of earl grey tea notes appears together with the peppery facets, expanding the spicy facet and giving more volume. It almost feels like the bergamot fills the empty spaces between the powdery spices, making it more compact. This tea notes provide a nice touch at the opening, where it sparks freshness and impart transparency.
It is exciting to smell the oriental and woody accords present throughout the fragrance. Together with the elemi and vanilla, the alliance imparts a lovely velvet texture. The vanilla is milky and creamy, reminiscent of soft milk-candy. Interestingly, a touch of calamus oil twists the balsamic and powdery facet of vanilla to be more milky, nutty, and sweet. In fact, slightly leathery.
Elemi and pink pepper provide warmth to this oriental facet, turning it into having a comfortable and caring mood. At this stage, the vanilla and the spices’ green notes create an impression of green apple or pear flesh, smelling delightfully sweet and watery.
Simultaneously, the wood accords, reminiscent of cypriol, vetiver, and sandalwood, enrich the oriental facet and build the fragrance’s signature. The woods smell elegant and noble in this oriental spicy background. Cypriol’s woody and smoky character overflow from the beginning until the dry down, keeping the woody backbone strong and balance. At the same time, the woods’ creamy aspect combines beautifully with vanilla, creating a refined suede texture. The scent develops into a pleasant smelling incense after some time, with a lingering sweetness from the vanilla and calamus.
Eau Duelle is warm and comfortable
I adore the combination of the notes because it is so soft, warm, and comfortable. I love using this as my night scent before going to bed. I think this fragrance has a beautiful balance between oriental accord, the spices, and the woods. I personally love elemi because of its spicy, sweet, yet creamy facet. And the combination with cypriol and vanilla in the fragrance is the bomb! I found cypriol to be very interesting because the smell is very particular, and it comes out at the top, modifying the perfume’s nuances. And the vanilla builds the oriental accord to be creamy but not sticky. Very delightful and pleasing.
On my skin, Eau Duelle is a long-lasting fragrance. The scent’s development is not evident throughout the journey, which I like. On my skin, this fragrance is tenacious; it stays for more than 8 hours.
Eau Duelle Eau de Toilette is created in 2010 and the Eau de Parfum in 2013. Both are creations of the nose Fabrice Pellegrin. He was at Robertet and Mane, before joining Firmenich in 2008.
